Human-Centered Design in Action: Designing and Performing Testing Sessions with Users with Special needs
The Human-Centered Design approach heavily relies on the inclusion of users into the design process. In special needs projects, in particular, it is vital to include the target users due to their specific requirements on the end product. However, conducting testing sessions with users with special needs always requires a lot of preparation and careful consideration. In the case of the LITERACY-project this special user group consists of people with dyslexia, a learning disability. Moreover, testing is performed across three nations. In this article the process of planning, conducting and analyzing such a testing session with a special user group is described and analyzed. It will discuss the considerations while planning the testing sessions, special preparation needed to create a suitable testing environment, choosing feedback channels and analyzing the data collected in the sessions.
