I'd prefer the RG to focus on network virtualization. Contrary to what some of the previous posters wrote, I also believe there are quite a number of opportunities for pre-standardization work. E.g., our work in the 4WARD project includes the deployment of virtual networks across provider domains. To that end, we are developing a number of inter-provider interfaces, protocols, and data models that will eventually require standardization if we hope that some of these technologies will see real-world deployment. That said, I have some concerns that "network virtualization" as presented here might be scoped to narrowly. Servers, caching nodes, wireless infrastructure etc. are all crucial parts of the network infrastructure. Excluding everthing but routers and links would be too limiting. This does not mean that the RG should look into OS virtualization etc. BR, Stephan. > -----Original Message----- > From: nvrg-bounces at listserv.gwdg.de > [mailto:nvrg-bounces at listserv.gwdg.de] On Behalf Of Sangjin Jeong > Sent: Friday, October 23, 2009 9:03 AM > To: Joe Touch > Cc: nvrg at listserv.gwdg.de > Subject: Re: [nvrg-bof] poll on charter focus - RESPONSES DUE OCT 23 > > Hi all, > > I think proposal a) is better suited for the scope of the RG. > > Regards, > Sangjin > > On Mon, Oct 12, 2009 at 5:00 AM, Joe Touch <touch at isi.edu> wrote: > > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- > > Hash: SHA1 > > > > > > > > Aaron Falk wrote: > >> To be very explicit, I'd like to ask whether the folks > on this list > >> who might participate in a research group feel that such an RG > >> should focus on a) the virtualization of networks or b) > >> virtualization of systems including networks and > others things such > >> as hosts, services, storage, sensors/actuators. > > > > Hi, all, > > > > Work on updating the charter proposal hasn't progressed > since the last > > meeting in Stockholm.
